The extensive damage and flooding caused by the hurricanes of 2052 and the subsequent riots in cities along the eastern coast of Canada sparked roughly a 15-year period which is still hotly debated by many 22nd century scholars.
This period of unrest, which was echoed in many other parts of the world, was characterized by a return to traditional craft techniques. Squatter communities thrived in nearly abandoned cities and a barter-trade economy flourished in these make‐shift societies.
Of these communities, it is the “Makers” of Nova Scotia who have provided us with a wealth of artefacts and written accounts from this time. Particular to the former Halifax area are the somewhat mythological figures known as “The Bird Man” and “The Weaver”, about whom a number of speculative books and scholarly articles have been written. Many of the artefacts pictured have given insight into who the people behind these characters may have been.
